British Kennels Directory

The British Kennels Directory was created in 2008 by a small group of dog lovers with a shared weakness for loyal Rotteweilers and dopey Great Danes! The Kennels Directory, along with its sister site the British Cattery Directory, were created to provide a useful service for pet owners across Britain. The site has been run on a non-profit basis since inception, aiming only to generate enough revenue from advertisers to cover operating costs.

Although unforseen circumstances meant that the British Kennels Directory was left to run without management or maintenance for 2 years until mid-2023, the site was kept alive during that time for the benefit of all who use it. Some listings in the directory became redundant as smaller kennels closed and their owners forgot to delete their listings, particularly during lockdown, so a new process has now been put into place which should prevent that happening again.

Why British Kennels Directory?

a site for dog lovers

The British Kennels Directory has only one goal; to serve as a trustworthy website where visitors can easily find details of boarding kennels in their area and be able to contact any that interest them, nothing more.

Most dog owners tend to find a boarding kennels in their area and then continue to use that same kennel if they’re happy with the services provided. That means that if you’re looking for a new boarding kennel, you’re doing it for one of three reasons; your regular kennels is fully booked and you need an alternative, you’ve moved to a new area and so need to find a new kennels, or you’ve simply never used a kennels before. Regardless of the reason, the British Kennels Directory aims to give you the information you need.

When building the British Kennels Directory, the question was what dog owners would want from it and what services they might find useful. The kennels directory was then set up to provide dog owners with all the information they need in a clear and simple manner. Aside from the usual contact details, each kennels listing includes a description provided by the kennel owners and a map to show their location.

Having found a boarding kennels you’re interested in, you can choose to go straight to your chosen kennel’s website via the link provided, telephone the kennels on the number provided or even send an email straight from their listing with your enquiry. There isn’t an easier way for dog owners who are looking for a boarding kennels to find and get in touch with kennels in their area!

Not only Kennels

For pretty much the same reasons as dog owners will visit the British Kennels Directory to find a local kennel, they will often need to find and register with a local veterinary clinic too. All dog owners, like any pet owners, need the help of a vet from time to time. So we decided to include a listing of local veterinary practices in the directory.

One of the sad parts of being a dog lover is realising just how many dogs find themselves homeless each year. Tens of thousands of dogs in the UK find themselves homeless every year, mostly through no fault of their own. The unlucky ones are destroyed but the majority are taken in by volunteer dog welfare or dog rescue organisations, whose volunteers do their best to rehome these now homeless dogs. While a lot of people prefer to buy puppies from reputable breeders, there are many dog lovers out there who are both willing and able to offer a loving home to these unfortunate dogs. To offer a little support to the great rescue organisations the British Kennels Directory also includes a listing of dog rescue organisations across the UK.

If you’ve got space for a new dog in your life, please have a look around your local dog rescue groups; you might meet your new best friend there!
